When I served (Navy), I never expected civilians to really care what I
was doing or expected respect from those who did not know me... But I
really did appreciate it when someone would come up to me in a mall or
when I was waiting in line and said "Thank you for doing what you do."
A little bit of thanks goes a long way. It's the lack of gratitude
that gets me. People really don't understand how incredible this
country is.
